Transcribing Matrix/Table Formats

Updated at:

The "Heritage Helper Manual" does not give guidance for how to transcribe a manuscript that is laid out as a matrix or table, with headings, columns, and rows. And, as far as I can tell, there is no “tip” yet to address this. Please, what direction can you give to guide conversion of such a layout in the original to the simple capabilities permitted to transcription? (As an example, my current task is ARMU003000005_0003, showing a general heading, then subsidiary headings across the top of 6 columns with 8 rows of text.) Or do I just plunge in and hope the validators can make the best of whatever is produced? Thank you.

I have tried, and failed, to create tabulated tables using the app.  I notice that even when it is possible to manually tab the data into columns, when you do a provisionall save, the columns disappear and the data all defaults to the left-hand alignment, up against the margin.  Consequently this makes nonsense of the columns.  I am not sure that it is possible to produce acceptable tables using this app; if it is I am sure we would all be grateful for advice on how this can be achieved.

Currently, I am rejecting such pages as 'Too Difficult' since I know any time I spend on them would be wasted.
